As the Denver Broncos continue shaping their roster for the upcoming season, one intriguing possibility is a reunion between head coach Sean Payton and one of the most versatile players in recent NFL history, Taysom Hill.

Following Hill’s departure from the New Orleans Saints, speculation has naturally turned toward Denver as a potential landing spot, and Tony Adame of Heavy.com has immediately made the connection.

Few coaches understand Hill’s unique skill set better than Payton. During their time together in New Orleans, Hill developed into an offensive weapon capable of lining up at quarterback, tight end, running back and on special teams.

Rather than fitting into a traditional position, he became a matchup problem whose versatility forced opposing defenses to prepare for multiple possibilities whenever he stepped onto the field.

The Broncos have spent the past two seasons building an offense around young quarterback Bo Nix while emphasizing creativity and efficiency.

Adding a player with Hill’s experience could give Denver another layer of flexibility, particularly in short-yardage situations and inside the red zone, where he has historically been one of the league’s most productive specialty players.

Hill’s value has never been measured solely by statistics. His ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game allows offensive coordinators to disguise formations and create favorable matchups. Even if his snap count is limited, defenses must account for the possibility of designed quarterback runs, trick plays or unexpected alignments whenever he enters the game.

Of course, any potential signing comes with questions. Hill is now in the later stages of his career, and durability has become a consideration after battling injuries in recent seasons. Denver would need to determine whether his versatility still outweighs the physical toll that comes with playing several positions.

From the Broncos’ perspective, familiarity could make the transition seamless. Payton already understands how to maximize Hill’s strengths, eliminating much of the learning curve that would exist with another coaching staff.

If Denver is looking to add a veteran who can contribute in specialized offensive packages while also providing leadership in the locker room, Hill checks many of those boxes.

Whether a reunion ultimately happens remains uncertain, but the connection between Payton and Hill makes Denver one of the more logical teams to watch.

If the Broncos believe another versatile chess piece can help elevate an already improving offense, bringing Hill to the Mile High City would be a move rooted in both familiarity and football fit.
