Broncos QB Russell Wilson: Denver is a city 'that knows how to win'

Last month, Denver Broncos legend and current club consultant John Elway referred to quarterback Russell Wilson as "the piece that we needed" to return to the Super Bowl. Elway earned two championship rings with Denver during his Hall of Fame career, while the Broncos won their third title when they defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 back in February 2016.

Since Elway's comments about the star signal-caller acquired from the Seattle Seahawks in March, the NHL's Colorado Avalanche advanced to the Stanley Cup Final and defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in the opening game of that series. Per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Wilson spoke Friday at his football camp about his excitement over representing what he considers to be a championship city.

"It’s been a blessing just to come here, just to come to an amazing city like Denver, to be a part of it with so many amazing teammates and great coaching staff," Wilson explained. "But also, once the trade was going to happen, I said, 'Hey, listen, I want to make sure that I go to a city that wants to win. I want to make sure that I go to a team that wants to win. And I want to go to a city that knows how to win.' And all those three things were checked off the box here in Denver and so I think we’ve got a chance."

Wilson is, of course, no stranger to Super Bowl Sundays, as he went 1-1 in championship contests with Seattle and should probably have a pair of rings in his personal trophy case. The 33-year-old will have a chance to add to that collection with Denver beginning this fall.
