Broncos Quietly Get Off To An Impressive 2-0 Start

There were trade talks for the three-time first-team All-Pro after missing the entire 2020 season due to injury.

The current season is also a contract year for Miller as his six-year, $114 million contract will expire once the Broncos’ campaign for 2021 ends.

But for all the doubts they endured, Bridgewater and Miller are vital contributors to the Broncos’ 2-0 start in 2021.

No one expected the Broncos to maintain a clean slate and share the lead in the AFC West.

However, they are winning because they are staying true to football’s fundamental objectives.

They compile enough points while taking care of the ball and unleash their defense to prevent their opponents from scoring big.

The Broncos opened their season with a 27-13 victory against the New York Giants.

Bridgewater made 28 completions for 264 yards and two touchdowns to Tim Patrick and Albert Okwuegbunam.

Miller turned back the hands of time to register two sacks on Daniel Jones.

Melvin Gordon III also had 11 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Jerry Jeudy made six receptions for 72 yards.

Denver converted all three of their fourth downs and made 24 first downs.

Meanwhile, the Broncos limited the Giants to 60 rushing yards, 27 of which were by Jones.

Saquon Barkley finished with 26 yards on 10 carries.

Maintaining The Good Start

The Broncos continued their winning ways against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Denver’s defense limited Lawrence to 14 completions out of 33 attempts for 118 yards, a touchdown, and two picks.

Miller added another sack to his collection while Patrick Surtain II got his first NFL interception.

Kareem Jackson also stole a ball from Lawrence, who threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns against the Houston Texans.

As Miller and company limited the Jaguars to 189 total yards on offense, Bridgewater and crew did their part to secure the victory.

The quarterback from Louisville finished with 328 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

He was also on target for 26 of 34 passes for a 76.4 completion percentage.

Courtland Sutton had a monster game with nine catches for 159 yards while Noah Fant got his first touchdown.

Denver last started a season at 2-0 in 2018 when Sutton was still a rookie.

Likewise, Miller is one of the few holdovers from that season, including tackle Garett Bolles, outside linebacker Bradley Chubb, inside linebacker Josey Jewell, and safety Justin Simmons.

Fast forward to 2021, and Denver is one of the surprise teams in the NFL.

They rank eighth in total yards per game at 409 and fifth in rushing with 130.5 yards per outing.

Their 4.5 yards per carry ranks ninth, and Gordon’s 70-yard touchdown is the longest run of the season so far.

On the other hand, the Broncos have the third-best defense by allowing just 251.5 total yards per game and third in fewest points allowed with 13 each match.

The Broncos are looking to extend their winning streak against the New York Jets at home.

Zach Wilson is in trouble if Denver maintains their defensive tenacity.
