The Denver Broncos played in a playoff game last season for the first time since their appearance in Super Bowl 50. Moreover, the franchise have found their franchise quarterback in Bo Nix and had one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2024.
It's safe to say that the Denver defensive line was a big reason for the defense's success, and they're bringing back a member of that line.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Broncos are re-signing defensive tackle D.J. Jones. Denver is offering Jones a deal worth $13 million per season.
Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports Jones has signed a three-year deal. Last season, Jones played every game for the Broncos but had just one sack, three quarterback hits, and 42 tackles.
In the run game, Jones was one of the best run defenders in the entire NFL.
According to Andrew Mason of Denversports.com, "Jones ranked fourth among 137 interior defensive lineman with at least 100 run-defensive player in run-stop percentage (11.3 percent) per PFF (Pro Football Focus) data."
Jones signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Broncos in 2022 and has become one of the best free agents general manager George Paton has signed.
In his career with the Broncos, Jones has five sacks, 122 tackles, and 11 quarterback hits.
Denver's decision to re-sign Jones means they can roll out their entire defensive line, which included Zach Allen, Malcolm Roach, and John Franklin-Myers last season.
This is the third free agent the Broncos have brought back this offseason, along with backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham and long snapper Mitchell Fraboni.
