Broncos three-time All-Pro Von Miller ready to play but won't make first appearance on turf field

After missing all of the 2020 season with an ankle injury, Denver Broncos edge rusher Von Miller is healthy for the 2021 campaign.

However, the 32-year-old doesn't want to return to the field for the first time on turf after not seeing game action since 2019. The Broncos are set to face the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field this weekend, which has a turf surface, so it's unlikely he'll play.

"I am ready to play," Miller said, according to Troy Renck of KMGH. "I think I was ready to play last weekend. It's just about feeling the right opportunity to play. Seattle has turf. I didn't want my first game to be on turf. I really want to be on grass especially with the type of injury I had."

Players often say they prefer to play on grass instead of turf because it's better for their legs. Miller's reluctance to play on turf in his first action since 2019 certainly makes sense.

The former second overall pick has spent his entire career with the Broncos. In 135 games, he has 106 sacks, two interceptions, 26 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, 490 tackles, 135 tackles for a loss and 216 quarterback hits.

The Broncos will end the preseason on their home field in Denver, so Miller could take the field at that point before suiting up for Week 1 against the New York Giants.
