Broncos To Consider Signing Taysom Hill

The Broncos will consider signing Hill, head coach Sean Payton said in an interview with NFL Network’s Steve Wyche and Cynthia Freeland. If Hill were to continue his playing career, Denver would obviously represent a logical destination. He and Payton overlapped in New Orleans from 2017-21.

During that span, Hill established himself as one of the game’s most unique players while holding multiple offensive roles and contributing on special teams. In the event of a Broncos agreement, the former UDFA would presumably spend the remainder of training camp competing for a tight end role. Bo Nix is entrenched as the team’s starting quarterback, while Denver has several running back options to sort through.

The tight end depth chart will once again contain Evan Engram this season. The 2025 free agent signing did not enjoy a strong debut campaign with Denver, but Payton said this spring he is still considered a core piece on offense. The Broncos also have the likes of Adam Trautman, Lucas Krull and fifth-round rookie Justin Joly vying for a tight end role. Hill, who turns 36 later this month, would certainly offer plenty of experience along with familiarity with Payton if he were to sign with Denver.

The Broncos currently sit near the top of the NFL with over $37MM in cap space. As a result, a one-year Hill agreement – which would no doubt come at a low cost – would easily be affordable and not alter the plans for any other roster tweaks as the summer progresses. With Hill weighing his options, it will be interesting to see if he becomes the latest ex-Saint to reunite with Payton in the Mile High City.
