According to Mike Klis of KUSA-TV in Denver, the Denver Broncos are waiving defensive back Tanner McCalister to make room for Mario Goodrich of the UFL's Birmingham Stallions. That keeps the Broncos' 90-man roster full.
McCalister was in his second year out of Ohio State. As an undrafted free agent in 2023, he signed with the Cleveland Browns. McCalister then spent all of the 2023 season on the Browns' practice squad. He was on the 53-man roster in three games for Cleveland that rookie season.
Jon Heath of Broncos Wire says McCalister also made the roster for three games for the Broncos last season, but spent most of the year on the practice squad there as well.
McCalister did log 54 snaps on special teams and one tackle on defense during his time in Denver.
The Broncos are making the cut to bring in Goodrich, who was originally signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2022, spending most of his time there on the practice squad over the next two seasons. He was waived by the Eagles last summer and was claimed by the New York Giants, but was waived due to an injury before the season began.
Goodrich was then signed by the Birmingham Stallions earlier this year, playing in seven games for the team. He forced three fumbles, had six pass breakups, and tallied 17 tackles during his short stint in the UFL.
Goodrich played college at Clemson University from 2018-2021, winning a national championship in his freshman year and earning first-team All-ACC honors during his senior season.
