Broncos waive ex-Cowboys rusher without playing a down

While it’s clear who are the top dogs in the Denver Broncos’ passing attack, head coach Sean Payton and company are still trying to figure out the best configuration at running back. They at least now know one option who won’t be in the mix.

The Broncos have released Deuce Vaughn, via Mike Klis of 9News. Denver signed him to their practice squad back in November of 2025, but he never played a regular season down with the team.

All of Vaughn’s production at the NFL level came over a two-year stretch with the Dallas Cowboys from 2023-2024. Over 14 games, the running back gained 110 scoreless yards on 40 touches. Vaughn did average 4.1 during the 2024 campaign and was sixth-round pick back in 2023. Perhaps another NFL franchise will show interest throughout the offseason. But after failing to get into the game with the Broncos, Vaughn will certainly have to prove himself wherever his next opportunity comes.

As for Denver, they have two clear favorites to lead their running back room. JK Dobbins has looked impressive when healthy, but that when is doing heavy lifting as he was held to 10 games in his Broncos debut. A former second-round pick, RJ Harvey is poised to be the future at the position and will look to take on an even bigger role in 2026.

With a top flight defense and an offense led  by quarterback Bo Nix, the Broncos have their sights set on making a run to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for Vaughn, he now won’t be able to contribute to that run.
