Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel has remained under center for the team, as they dropped their fourth game in five weeks on Sunday in a 27-20 loss to the New York Jets.
Gabriel completed 17-of-32 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns in the loss, while also being sacked six times. It was a decent performance for the third-round pick out of Oregon, but one that was not convincing enough to silence the crowd that thinks his backup and fellow rookie, Shedeur Sanders, should be starting.
While Gabriel was the team's top choice between the two in the 2025 NFL Draft, the son of Deion Sanders has seen a surge in fans and media members calling for him to replace Gabriel. Sanders was selected in the fifth round with the No. 144 overall pick after most mock drafts had him slated to go in the first round.
Despite the calls for Sanders, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed after Sunday's loss that the team will "stick with Dillon (Gabriel)."
Although fans didn't love it, the NFL clearly sees something in Gabriel as the Browns announced on Tuesday that he was up for NFL Rookie of the Week.
"Dillon is up for NFL Rookie of the Week," wrote the team on X.

Gabriel and the Browns will look to snap a two-game losing streak on Sunday as they will be hosting the Baltimore Ravens (4-5).
The game will kick at 4:25 p.m. ET and air on CBS, and will certainly have plenty of eyes on it to see if Sanders finally makes his debut.
