Browns are open to trading an unexpected player ahead of the NFL trade deadline that is quickly approaching

The Cleveland Browns have made three trades so far this season, and with the NFL trade deadline around the corner on Nov. 4, more could be coming.

Cleveland will be clear sellers at the deadline with a 2-6 record entering their bye week. The Browns aren’t back in action until Nov. 7 against the New York Jets, so any trade decisions will have to be based on what they’ve seen through the first eight games.

Cleveland open to moving on from a free-agent signing

According to Jordan Schultz, the Browns are open to trading safety Rayshawn Jenkins, who has served as their third safety this season and has been a key contributor on special teams. Jenkins currently leads the NFL in special teams tackles and has made an impact on defense as well, but he’s on a one-year deal and likely isn’t part of the team’s long-term plans.

Jenkins, 31, is in his ninth NFL season and with his fourth team overall. He has recorded 21 tackles, one fumble recovery, and one interception this season. Over his career, the veteran safety has 11 interceptions and has primarily been a starter … though that hasn’t been his role in Cleveland. Grant Delpit and Ronnie Hickman have both been strong on the back end for the Browns, which makes Jenkins expendable. The rise of Hickman, an undrafted free agent in 2023, has especially made that possible. Hickman has posted 50 tackles and one interception this season.

Jenkins likely wouldn’t cost much to acquire, perhaps a sixth-round pick in exchange for a seventh-round pick would get a deal done. A team looking to make a playoff push would be an ideal fit for the versatile veteran who brings value on both defense and special teams. Jenkins has been a solid addition for the Browns, but moves like this are often made when you’re staring at a 2-6 record through the first eight weeks of the season.
