Browns' Cody Parkey on injured reserve with quad problem

Cody Parkey will not be the last kicker standing for the Cleveland Browns when the preseason ends.

According to Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com, the Browns placed Parkey on injured reserve Monday with a quad issue. Because Parkey is going on IR at this point of the year, he cannot be designated to return for the Browns this season. The 29-year-old could kick for another club during the campaign if he and the Browns reach an injury settlement.

Chase McLaughlin becomes the undisputed starting placekicker for Cleveland as of Monday, but general manager Andrew Berry could also decide to work out free-agent kickers before the Browns close the preseason at the Atlanta Falcons this coming Sunday. McLaughlin made a 49-yard field goal in this past Sunday's win over the New York Giants.

"He’s battling, he’s doing a nice job, I think you guys have seen it out at practice," Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said of McLaughlin. "Did a nice job with that field goal into the Dawg Pound yesterday, so he’s doing a nice job and expect him to keep battling."

In total, McLaughlin has converted 22 of 28 field-goal attempts in 15 NFL regular-season games.
