The Cleveland Browns have a gaping hole in their running backs room ... and it just got bigger.
The Browns, looking hopefully toward the future, have Nick Chubb on their list of 2025 free agents, so he is in limbo in regard to whether he remains in Cleveland.
And now on Tuesday they are saying a definitive goodbye to another back.
Running back Nyheim Hines, who signed with the team last March after sustaining a torn ACL in a rather infamous jet ski accident back in 2023, is out the door.
Per The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov, Cleveland has decided to cut the 28-year-old running back who ended up never playing a down for the team in 2024.
Hines was a fourth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts, and it was there where he set franchise records as a special-teams ace. His name is in the books there for single-game punt return yards and punt return touchdowns.
And he also did a nice job as a rotational back behind two-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Taylor.
Before that, he was with the Buffalo Bills, having been traded there in November of 2022, and was the centerpiece of a very special day when in Week 18 returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, becoming just the 11th NFL player to do so in a single game in the 35–23 win..
That year, Hines appeared in 16 games and started five in the 2022 season, and was a weapon as a receiver out of the backfield as well. Now, at age 28, he looks for a fresh start elsewhere.
