Browns defender says that the 2024 season will be his last lap in the NFL
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Playing in the NFL for 13 seasons is a long career that not many can reach.

When Cleveland Browns S Rodney McLeod steps out on the field in September, it’ll be his 13th time beginning a regular season in the NFL.

After 12 years in the NFL, McLeod made it known that the 13th season would be his final one before hanging up the cleats.

“This is the last lap for me. It has been a long career. A prosperous one, one that many did not anticipate when I started out being undrafted,” McLeod explained on NFL Total Access. “But I’ve been able to achieve a lot. Just looking forward to rocking out with my teammates this year and giving it my all and hopefully ending up where we want to be and that’s a part of that last dance at the end of this year.”

McLeod was with the Browns for 10 games last season before a pectoral injury derailed his season. The veteran safety started five games in place of Juan Thornhill when he was hurt and made 29 tackles in the process.

“It just felt like last year was left incomplete. I wanted a complete year. I pride myself on availability and being durable. So for me this year it is finishing unfinished business.”

McLeod is the third safety for the Browns and he is a key piece in Jim Schwartz’s defense. The signing prior to last season made sense with the relationship that the two had previously with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Coming into the NFL as an undrafted free agent, McLeod spent his first four seasons with the Rams organization, then had six seasons with the Eagles. The veteran played a season with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Browns in 2023.

A solid career for McLeod that will come to an end after the 2024 season, but he hopes he’s playing into February of 2025.
