Browns expected to add D-lineman after latest cut

The Browns are reportedly in search of another defensive lineman after parting ways with one of their youngest defenders on Wednesday.

Cleveland released DT Perrion Winfrey, its fourth-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft after he allegedly threatened a woman on Tuesday night. Insider Brad Stainbrook expects the team to "sniff around the market for a veteran defensive tackle."

The Browns aren't desperately thin at the position after waiving Winfrey as they signed DT Dalvin Tomlinson and drafted DT Siaki Ika this offseason. But another addition to the defensive line certainly wouldn't hurt.

Shelby Harris and Akiem Hicks are among the best free-agent defensive tackles remaining.

Harris has 261 tackles, 24.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in his eight-year career. The soon-to-be 32-year-old is looking for a new home after a two-sack season with the Seahawks.

Hicks has 409 tackles, 41.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in his 11-year career but is set to turn 34 during the season. He had just one sack with the Buccaneers in 2022.

Both players are coming off down years with their previous teams but could certainly have some gas left in the tank to help Cleveland push for a Super Bowl in 2023.

The Browns have an important season ahead as they hope to make it back to the postseason for the first time since the 2020 season. Adding another veteran such as Harris or Hicks could certainly help.
