One former Cleveland Browns draft pick is back in the NFL after not appearing in a game since the 2023 season with another team.
The Dallas Cowboys have signed former Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey following a standout season in the UFL.
Winfrey played for the Birmingham Stallions, where he earned All-UFL honors after recording 29 tackles and one sack from the interior defensive line.
Winfrey appeared in 13 games for the Browns in 2022 and played just one game during the 2023 season with the New York Jets. He was a fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma in the 2022 NFL Draft and totaled 25 tackles and 0.5 sacks over 14 games during his time in Cleveland.
His tenure with the Browns was tampered by off-field issues. He faced multiple incidents during his time with the team and the last one where a gun was allegedly involved was the final straw for him in Cleveland. Winfrey would serve a two game suspension with the Jets in 2023.
Winfrey’s talent has never been in question, but off-field concerns have held him back. Now with the Cowboys, he has an opportunity to earn a spot in their defensive line rotation—or at the very least, a place on the practice squad. At 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, Winfrey brings a very physical build to the gridiron. Still just 24 years old and coming off a strong showing in the UFL, Winfrey may finally be on the right track.
