Browns GM Andrew Berry confirms suspicion about Falcons’ Kirk Cousins being in Cleveland last week

Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins made an appearance in the Cleveland area last week and made stops at a couple of chain food spots. Browns fans of course saw him out and pictures immediately made their circles around the internet.

Cousins even played along with it, chiming in on X with his Chipotle order to one of the posts. Cleveland has been unable to sign a veteran bridge quarterback option and Cousins could be available via trade potentially. The first thing that ran across everyone’s mind was that Cousins was in town for something football-related.

Browns general manager Andrew Berry shut down that notion on Sunday and it makes sense that he is telling the truth.

Cleveland was on the road last week with visits to Miami, Ole Miss, and Penn State in preparation for the draft in late April. If Cousins was in town to meet with the team, he would have had to gain permission from the Falcons to do so since he is under contract. Even if that permission was granted, the decision makers of the Browns were not in Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland could eventually trade for Cousins, but that isn’t likely to happen until after the NFL draft if it does at all. The team traded for Kenny Pickett earlier in the offseason and he is set to compete for the Week 1 job. Still, the Browns would be wise to add a veteran bridge option that can win them games and has a track record of doing so.

Last season with the Falcons, Cousins was a shell of his former self but should regain form a bit the further that he is away from the Achilles injury. It is still a risk to bring a player with that injury history in no matter what.

The Browns are going to draft a quarterback, it is just a matter of where they decide to pull the trigger. Trying to get out of the hole from the Deshaun Watson trade is the biggest task this team must accomplish.

After all, it wasn’t that Cousins was in Cleveland for anything to do with the Browns. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t be eventually.
