The Cleveland Browns are embarking on an important offseason for many reasons.
The team needs improvements across the roster and on the coaching staff, and after the firing of former offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, a new offensive mind was priority one.
That short search has come to an end with a familiar face as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported first that Cleveland will promote tight ends coach Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator.
The hiring comes just over a week after Dorsey was let go as the Browns' offense posted one of the worst seasons in recent memory by a number of statistical metrics.
The promotion might not move the needle for a number of Browns fans as Rees has no experience calling plays at the NFL level, but at least internally, he's very highly thought of as an offensive mind.
After Mike Vrabel was announced as the new head in New England, rumors swirled that Rees was on his short list of possible offensive coordinators. Vrabel and Rees formed a close friendship while Vrabel served as a consultant for the Browns last season.
The hire is not a surprise as Kevin Stefanski had already eluded to the search beginning from within, and now Rees will get to coach a familiar group of players from a roster he's already familiar with.
