Injuries just downright hit the Cleveland Browns as hard as you will ever see last season and this season is not off to a promising start in that department. Next up for the Browns is the Las Vegas Raiders and the practice week is not off to a good start for Cleveland.
On Wednesday, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that the Browns would be placing right guard Wyatt Teller on the injured reserve with his knee injury. Teller will be forced to miss at least four games with the injury he suffered in the Week 3 loss to the New York Giants.
Additionally, the Browns have plenty of other injuries. Not practicing on Wednesday are; Myles Garrett (knee, Achilles, thigh), Jack Conklin (hamstring), Jedrick Wills Jr. (knee), David Njoku (ankle), Jordan Hicks (ribs, elbow), Jerome Ford (knee), and Pierre Strong (hamstring).
With Teller landing on the injured reserve, it will be up to rookie guard Zak Zinter to step up and fill in for him. Zinter was a third-round pick out of Michigan who got some work in last week when Teller went down.
The biggest worry that immediately pops off is Garrett. Cleveland’s defense would be taking an unreal hit with Garrett out; the good news is that he plans to play through the issues. Last week, the star pass rusher practiced just one day, and that could be the same this week.
Stefanski revealed that Njoku would practice some this week, just not today. It is up in the air whether he will be able to play, but having his presence back on the field would be huge for what the offense wants to do.
The tackle situation is up in the air and Stefanski did say there is a chance that left guard Joel Bitonio slides over a spot if he needs to, just like he did against the Giants. As the week goes on, more will be known about Wills and Conklin, who are both day-to-day.
In good news, right tackle Dawand Jones is practicing on Wednesday and will be good to go with his knee injury on Sunday. Ford, Strong, and Hicks are all players that should be out there as well.
A full injury report for both the Raiders and Browns will be posted here once it is made available.
