The Cleveland Browns and safety Grant Delpit have reportedly agreed to terms on a contract extension.
The news, first reported by Brad Stainbrook of the Orange and Browns Rpt, is massive for the Cleveland Browns who again are on the cusp of a playoff appearance and their safety is a huge reason why.
Delpit is having a career season for Cleveland. The former second-round pick was a first-round talent coming out of Louisana State University but fell in the draft due to an injury. The Browns came in and grabbed Delpit with the 44th overall pick.
His rookie season never got off the ground as he came in and suffered a torn achilles in camp in 2020.
In his second year, 2021, he began to make his mark. He would finish year 2 with 66 tackles and one interception in 15 games played. A very solid season for the second-year guy which paved the way for the player that he is now.
In 2022 Delpit elevated his game to new heights and became a totally different player. He stayed away from any injury and became the guy on the back end of this defense. He would start in 16 games and finish with 100 tackles, 10 passes defensed, four tackles for loss and four interceptions. He became the leader in the Browns vaunted secondary.
This year he has picked up right where he left off in 2022. He has tallied 74 total tackles and one interception. He has a PFF grade of 69.7 this year which ranks him 30th among 88 safeties in the league. He is ranked 11th best covering the pass and he is the eighth-best safety in his pass rush grade.
Delpit has more than earned his contract extension, and on Sunday the Browns were able to get it done.
We will update this article as more details on the contract emerge.
