Cleveland Browns are now a 2-7 football team after a 27-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9. It is clear that the Browns have to act as sellers at the trade deadline.
With the deadline Tuesday, it would not be a surprise if the Browns traded a player or two to look toward the future. Cleveland is going nowhere this year and they’re trending toward a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft.
Jameis Winston was asked about what he would tell his teammates who are now waiting to see where they will be a week from now. Winston had a nice response, as you would expect him to.
“I think the way you handle uncertainty at any time is one day at a time,” Winston told the media after the loss to Los Angeles. “I think as a human, fear of the unknown is something that really keeps us up at night. We just don’t know. But I just lean on trust in the Lord with your whole heart and lean out into your own understanding. And that’s definitely what I’m going to do. I don’t understand why today happened, but I trust in the Lord regardless.”
Cleveland has hoped to build off of their upset defeat of the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. That didn’t work for the Browns and their offense failed to get going against the Chargers. Winston tossed three interceptions and the defense wasted three sacks from Myles Garrett with problems in the secondary.
The Browns would be doing a disservice to themselves if they didn’t move a player or two that isn’t in their future plans. Za’Darius Smith, Greg Newsome II, and Quinton Jefferson are players to watch.
Winston has at least eight more games as the Browns’ starting quarterback if the Browns stick with him the entire way through. Kevin Stefanski remains adamant he is the guy for this season.
Expect the Browns to field calls from multiple teams and make a deal if it makes sense compensation-wise. If Cleveland does make a trade, A to Z Sports will have everything on it as always.
