Browns’ Kevin Stefanski Announces Shedeur Sanders Development on Friday

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders continues to try to get on the field for his first NFL game, but an injury has kept that from happening. After being elevated to the team's backup quarterback position, he's had to miss a couple of games due to a back issue.

Starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel hasn't been playing well, but he hasn't had to face the pressure of Sanders taking over for him. Luckily, the quarterback finally got some good news, and he's expected to be active in Week 10.

Sanders is Still QB2 for Browns

Sanders and Gabriel are the only two quarterbacks on the Browns' active roster, so practice squad quarterback Bailey Zappe has had to be the backup in recent weeks. However, that's not going to be a permanent promotion for him.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Friday that Sanders will continue to be the team's No. 2 quarterback this week against the New York Jets. This probably isn't a great week for him to have a chance at his debut.

The Jets are one of the few teams that might be worse than the Browns. With star defenders Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams getting traded, the New York defense could be very weak.

That gives Gabriel a chance to finally get on track. That said, if he plays poorly against a bad defense, Stefanski might finally have to pull the trigger on giving Sanders a chance. The Browns aren't winning anything this year, so they should eventually see what they have in Sanders.

Even if he's bad, at least they can point to that when reporters ask them why he hasn't been playing.
