Browns Lose Starting Safety for Season
Jessica Rapfogel-USA TODAY Sports

Browns safety Rodney McLeod will miss the rest of the season with a biceps injury that will require surgery, head coach Kevin Stefanski said. The injury occurred during their game against the Steelers game when McLeod went to make a tackle and overextended. Cleveland officially placed him on injured reserve, meaning he would have to miss at least four games, but the injury appears season-ending at this stage.

That’s another blow for a Browns team that has dealt with many injuries this season, including Deshaun Watson and Nick Chubb, who are out for the season. McLeod had played in ten games for the Browns this season, starting in five games. He racked up 29 tackles and two tackles for loss in those starts. The 33-year-old McLeod has been in the league since 2012, playing with the Rams, Eagles, and Colts before coming to Cleveland.

‘Disappointment, frustration, anger are all valid emotions as my 2023 season comes to an end. However I am thankful for this season of gratitude to reflect on the blessings God has provided over my 12 year career,” McLeod posted on X, the site formerly known as Twitter. “God’s peace rules my heart giving me calmness and confidence entering this season of opportunity and growth. My biggest life lessons have occurred in times of hardship, I learned the true power of the mind! The lens we choose to look through during adverse moments is critical!”

Without him, the Browns will rely even more on Juan Thornhill and Grant Delpit. Thornhill missed their game against the Steelers due to a calf injury. D’Anthony Bell and Ronnie Hickman round out the list of safeties that they have to help replace the depth that McLeod brought to the room. Cleveland sits at 7-3 and in second place in the AFC North while trying to chase down the Ravens at the top.
