The Cleveland Browns officially placed veteran linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk on injured reserve. In a corresponding move the team signs back defensive tackle Maurice Hurst to its 53-man roster.

The Browns had to wait until the 4 pm deadline to pass yesterday in order to ensure Kunaszyk could be designated to return this season. Hurst was released as part of cutdown day.

The move was coordinated so that the team wouldn’t need to risk losing another player to waiver claims. Since Hurst is a vested veteran, he was not subject to waivers.

Kunaszyk will now be required to miss four games with his injury that he suffered in the final game of the preseason. He can be designated to return anytime after by the team. From the NFL rule book:

*Any player going on injured reserve at this point in the season with a major injury is allowed to return after missing four games. Teams are permitted eight players to return from IR per season. An individual player can return from IR a maximum of twice per season, but each time counts against the team's allotted eight designations.

Hurst will for now round out the defensive line with ten players. Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz prefers to utilize a heavy rotation of players in order to keep them fresh and wear down opposing offensive lines.
