Browns make trade official, sign former Ravens CB

General manager Andrew Berry and the Browns' busy offseason continued Tuesday as a pair of moves were made official by the team.

Cleveland announced that its trade for Vikings' edge rusher Za'Darius Smith is officially complete while announcing the signing of CB Chris Westry as well.

Smith will now join DE Myles Garrett on the Browns, creating one of the best pass-rushing duos in the league, and it only cost a swapping of future late-round picks in 2024 and 2025.

Garrett is coming off back-to-back 16-sack seasons while Smith had a 10-sack season for himself in his lone year in Minnesota.

Westry, who played for the Ravens in 2021, joins a cornerback room that includes Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome II, Martin Emerson Jr. and A.J. Green. The 25-year-old will certainly have a shot to make the roster as Cleveland continues its defensive overhaul.

The Browns will be Westry's fourth team since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He has 18 tackles and three passes defensed in eight career games played.

Cleveland's defense should look a lot different in 2023 with new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in charge and a ton of new toys that now include Smith and Westry.
