The Cleveland Browns were one of the biggest winners of the 2026 NFL Draft. However, one question still lingers.
Todd Monken’s team has yet to name a starting quarterback, with Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders as the frontrunners, and Dillon Gabriel and Taylen Green as other potential candidates.
Moreover, they might add another body to the mix sooner rather than later. To be more specific, they could add a projected first-round pick.
According to Browns insider Tony Grossi, the Browns are doing their due diligence on Texas Tech transfer Brendan Sorsby, who might enter the league early.
"Sorsby, 22, is the talented, physical (6-3 and 235 pounds) and controversial Texas Tech quarterback contemplating an end run to the NFL via the seldom-used supplemental draft. In the event that happens sometime in July, NFL teams are doing their homework in sizing up Sorsby as a quarterback prospect. The Browns are among those teams putting in work on Sorsby, according to a source,” wrote Grossi.
Sorsby is currently under investigation for placing thousands of wagers during his collegiate career, and he’s likely to lose his NCAA eligibility.
As such, he could choose to declare for the Supplemental NFL Draft and turn pro a year early, even though he will likely face a gambling-related suspension out of the gate.
The former Cincinnati star has drawn praise as a potential first-round pick in 2027, and at just 22, teams like the Browns might be more than willing to give up a future selection to get him on the roster.
Of course, that wouldn’t be an orthodox path to the league, and his off-field issues might scare some teams away.
That said, the Browns haven’t named a quarterback yet, so they’re clearly not entirely sold on their options.
It’s a risky bet — no pun intended — but doing due diligence on such a talented prospect certainly makes sense.
