The Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation has been a recurring issue for decades now.
And as much as his fans would love Shedeur Sanders to be their savior, his rookie season was a mixed bag.
Considering that, it's not much of a surprise to see the Browns among the odds-on favorites to make a run at Kyler Murray.
DraftKings has the Browns (+450) tied fourth in the list of their potential destinations, trailing the New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins and tied with the Atlanta Falcons.
When asked about Sanders and the quarterback situation, new Browns head coach Todd Monken revealed the position is up for grabs.
Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, he confirmed that there would be an open competition.
“Why wouldn't it be an open competition?" Monken said. “I don't mean that saying it harshly, but I don't think there's enough on film over the last couple years, one way or the other, to say, ‘Boy, we have our starter at quarterback yet.’ Whether internally or externally.”
Murray will still be paid in full by the Arizona Cardinals, so he can sign a one-year "prove it" type deal. The Browns are $16 million over the salary cap, per Over The Cap, so they can certainly use some veteran help on a cheap contract.
Monken elevated Lamar Jackson's game to new heights, so even if the Browns might not be the most appealing free agent destination, he might be just what Murray needs to prove the doubters wrong in 2026.
