The Cleveland Browns (1-2) have not had the start to the 2024 season they likely imagined, and things only seem to be getting worse.
Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett left Sunday's 21-15 loss to the New York Giants with a foot injury, and he revealed it's much more complicated than originally thought.
"It's more than just the foot," Garrett said, via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. "It's multiple things going on."
Garrett's foot injury is new to him this season, as it first popped up on the injury report after Week 1. However, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport says it's a problem he had to deal with when he was younger.
"He had surgery on his feet when he was younger," Rapoport said. "And, apparently, as Garrett explained to reporters earlier this week, he's having some complications related to those feet, which has been taking him off the practice field."
While Garrett is clearly not the same player he is when fully healthy, he has still made an impact through the first three weeks of the season, registering six tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Plus, he is still the Browns' best pass-rusher even when he's not fully healthy. That's why he's planning on playing as long as he's told he can.
"He said he is going to keep playing until they basically stop him from doing so," Rapoport added. "He's going to get an MRI. It's more complicated, as he noted, than we even know. We will see if this is something he can play through going forward. You know if he can, he absolutely will."
Garrett did note that he might need a procedure "further down the line," but in the meantime, he's focused on helping Cleveland move up from its third-place standing in the AFC North.
"I'm not concerned about something I don't know about," Garrett added. "So, get the results and move from there. At this point, I'm going to continue to move as I have and look forward to playing the next game until someone tells me otherwise."
The Browns go on the road to face the Las Vegas Raiders (1-2) in Week 4.
