Browns Owner Makes Feelings Clear About Kevin Stefanski Amid NFL Season

Head coach Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns face the New England Patriots on the road in Week 8. At 2-5, the Browns sit in third place in the AFC North.

They are trying to capture a second straight win after defeating the Miami Dolphins 31-6 in Week 7. The team's lack of success this season has raised questions about Stefanski's future in Cleveland.

In an article posted on Oct. 13, CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr wrote , 'The beginning of the end appears to be happening for Stefanski, as the Browns' failures in the front office with Deshaun Watson had led to a good head coach fighting for his job."

Of course, that was before Cleveland throttled Miami. If the Browns do move on from the head coach, it could be a decision made by owner Jimmy Haslam. However, when speaking with The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Haslam had a glowing review of Stefanski.

“Kevin’s done a really good job with us, and we’ve had some tough breaks,” Haslam said. "A big trade we made didn’t work out, and you know, we’re all suffering from that. Kevin, I thought, really did a great job of rallying the troops last week at a really critical time. You find out about leaders when things are bad, not when they’re good, and he did a good job last week.”

The big trade mentioned is the acquisition of Watson, who has played just 19 games for the Browns since joining the team in 2022.

In 2025, Stefanski navigated a quarterback room that included Joe Flacco, Tyler Huntley, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Huntley was released before the season began, Flacco was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals after five games, and Gabriel took over the starting spot.

Since joining the Browns in 2020, Stefanski has won AP Coach of the Year twice (2020 and 2023) and compiled a 42-49 record. Despite being on pace for a second straight losing season, Haslam stays confident.

The Browns visit the Patriots at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on Fox.
