Browns Predicted To Make Major Contract Move With Amari Cooper
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns have clinched a surprising playoff berth, and much of that is thanks to the superb play of wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Cooper has been brilliant this season, hauling in 72 receptions for 1,250 yards—a career high—and five touchdowns. Most recently, he logged 11 catches for 265 yards and a couple of scores during the Browns’ blowout win over the Houston Texans on Dec. 24 (he missed Week 17 due to a heel injury).

Marcus Mosher of Pro Football Focus predicts that Cleveland will consider a long-term contract extension with Cooper, whose current deal expires after next season.

Mosher notes that a long-term deal with Cooper is fairly risky due to his age (he turns 30 years old in June), but adds that one cannot understate his importance to the Browns.

Cleveland initially acquired Cooper in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys back in March 2022, sending a pair of late-round draft picks to the Cowboys in exchange for the wide out.

Cooper enjoyed a spectacular debut campaign with the Browns, catching 78 passes for 1,160 yards and a career-best nine touchdowns.

The University of Alabama product was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders with the fourth overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He spent the first three-and-a-half years of his career with the Raiders, making Pro Bowl appearances in each of his first two seasons. He was then traded to Dallas midway through the 2018 campaign and went on to make his third trip to the Pro Bowl that year, snaring 75 balls for 1,005 yards and seven scores.

Cooper would proceed to earn his fourth Pro Bowl selection in 2019 after finishing with 79 grabs for 1,189 yards while reaching the end zone eight times.

He spent three-and-a-half seasons with the Cowboys overall.

Amari Cooper and the Browns are 11-5 and will battle the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
