The surprise of the NFL Honors came near the end and it involved the Cleveland Browns, who were involved quite often on Thursday night. Overall, Cleveland took home four awards.
When QB Joe Flacco was named Comeback Player of the Year there were not many that saw coming. The moment that it was known that Buffalo Bills S Damar Hamlin made the team back in August it was believed he had the award wrapped up.
That wasn’t the case and Flacco’s heroics with the Browns during the 2023 season were enough to win him the award.

It is not that Flacco didn’t deserve it, he probably had the best case on the field. The belief was that Hamlin would get it because of his story, I mean the man died on the field and returned to play the sport.
Flacco jumped off his couch in November and ended up starting five games for the Browns. He went 4-1 and was a key reason the Browns kept their playoff hopes alive and made a wild-card game. The turnovers ended up being detrimental in the playoffs, but he elevated the offense by airing the ball out. Flacco tossed 13 touchdowns to eight interceptions with 1,616 yards.
A player who used to thump the Browns for a long one during his tenure with the Baltimore Ravens ended up being just what the doctor ordered in the 2023 season. The 39-year-old quarterback says he still wants to play, so it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out with him in free agency.
