Browns QB Joe Flacco almost had an entirely different job this season

Quarterback Joe Flacco was first signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad on Nov. 19. Now three weeks later, the Super Bowl XLVII MVP has been named the team's starter for the rest of the season.
Prior to landing in Cleveland, Flacco nearly had an entirely different job.

"Inside the NFL" airs on The CW and is hosted by former Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowl safety Ryan Clark. Retired linebacker Channing Crowder, retired one-time Pro Bowl quarterback Jay Cutler, former All-Pro wide receiver Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson and former defensive end (and Walter Payton Man of the Year) Chris Long serve as analysts.

Clark and Flacco spent eight years going head-to-head as rivals with the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, respectively, from 2006-13.

The 38-year-old signal-caller joined the Browns after starter Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Flacco was expected to compete for the backup gig with P.J. Walker behind Dorian Thompson-Robinson, but "DTR" went down with a concussion in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos.

Walker entered in relief of Thompson-Robinson vs. Denver, but Flacco got the start in Week 13. Walker was waived by Cleveland on Saturday and Flacco got another game under center, with Thompson-Robinson serving as QB2.

The Browns suffered a 36-19 road loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13, but bounced back with a critical 31-27 home victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. During the win, the 2008 first-round pick posted his most passing yards (311) in over five years (Week 4 of the 2018 season with Baltimore).

Flacco led the Ravens to six playoff appearances in his first seven seasons, going 10-5 in the postseason including a perfect 4-0 mark on his way to the Super Bowl XLVII title. Cleveland is now 8-5 and holds the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture.
