NFL free agency starts on Wednesday, with the legal tampering period beginning on Monday. The Cleveland Browns , under the leadership of new head coach Todd Monken, will likely be looking for new players to strengthen their team.
Last season, the team used three different quarterbacks, including former Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders. He had a tough season, throwing for 1,400 yards, with seven touchdowns and ten interceptions.
He will likely have an opportunity to earn the starting position next season, but he will need some support, particularly at wide receiver. Jerry Jeudy led the wide receiving corps with just 602 yards and two touchdowns last season. The lack of a consistent No. 1 option created challenges for whoever was under center.
That lack of production at wide receiver could be why they look at one of the game's best players at the position. According to SleeperNFL on X, the Browns may pursue legendary Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans to join the team next season.

Mike Evans has played all 12 seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has made 866 receptions for a total of 13,052 yards and scored 108 touchdowns, all of which are franchise records. Additionally, he tied Jerry Rice for the most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, achieving this feat for a total of 11 seasons. However, that streak came to an end this year when Evans recorded only 368 yards and three touchdowns due to an injury-plagued season.
A return to Tampa Bay is a possibility, but Evans is reportedly planning to explore his options. Two other teams that have been mentioned as potential destinations for him are the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The problem with Cleveland is Evans reportedly seeks four key factors for next season: a quarterback he believes in, a chance at a Super Bowl, a top-tier offensive coordinator and the promise of high-volume touches.
Whether he has faith in a young quarterback like Sanders remains to be seen. The Browns likely are not Super Bowl contenders after recording back-to-back seasons with five or fewer wins. He might have confidence in Monken, considering he was his offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, he would likely receive a high volume of touches.
It remains to be seen whether Cleveland can become a legitimate contender for the likely future Hall of Fame wide receiver, or if it’s just a pipe dream.
