Browns receive low grade for 2022 draft class

The Browns 2022 season didn't go as planned, finishing 7-10 and missing the playoffs. Cleveland's rookie class didn't have many meaningful contributions and its recent grade shows.

NFL.com writer Nick Shook gave the Browns' 2022 draft class a C+, tied for the worst grade in the AFC North.

There are a lot of reasons their grade is so low, most notably because they didn't pick until the third round due to their trade with Houston for QB Deshaun Watson.

Cleveland didn't have a rookie start more than six games. That player was CB Martin Emerson Jr., who Shook highlights by saying he "quietly compiled a quality season for a rookie corner."

Emerson had 63 tackles, 15 passes defensed and one sack and Shook notes that Emerson was "consistently effective in tough matchups."

Another rookie that Browns fans had high hopes for was WR David Bell. Bell was drafted as a "developmental replacement" for Jarvis Landry, but he had just 24 catches for 214 yards and zero touchdowns in 2022.

Shook also discussed DT Perrion Winfrey who had just 22 tackles and 0.5 sacks in his first year with Cleveland.

"While he could occasionally overpower some blockers in pass-rushing situations, he showed he's not yet consistent enough to be counted upon to make a significant difference inside," Shook wrote.

The Browns will once again have to find talent outside of the first round in the 2023 NFL Draft. Hopefully, they can do a little better this time around.
