Browns recent defensive struggles due to 'being late to work' says safety Grant Delpit

Slow starts have stymied the Cleveland Browns' defense in recent weeks.

But it isn't anything the Browns feel the team can't fix ahead of its matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. No doubt home cooking will alleviate the struggles. But faster starts can make all the difference. Just ask Browns safety Grant Delpit.

"We’ve been late to work," he said. "Both games started slow, and that’s never going to help winning, so definitely got to start faster this game, and we have a tendency of playing well at home, so hopefully we keep that up."

Browns defense must show up against Jaguars

It is out of the question, the Browns defense must show up against Jacksonville.

The playoff implications feel massive. The Browns are losers of two straight. They haven't been a great road team all season. Where Cleveland has found success is at home.

It is part of the reason why Delpit appeared bullish on the success of the defense against a fairly banged-up Jaguars team.

"We can’t have that," he said. "If we’re the championship defense that we say we are, we put on tape already. We can’t run from it, man. We put some greatness on tape, but we also put some stuff that’s not us on tape as well. So, this is December football, man, so it’s time to get going now. We can’t have any slip-ups or anything like that. So put this thing in super drive right now.”

Preventing slip-ups means embracing the challenge ahead for Cleveland. But to Delpit's credit, he believes being home, in front of a friendly crowd, will only do favors for Cleveland.

“We’re going to play behind our home crowd, man," he said. "We can’t wait to get back in front of our home crowd. It’s been a long two weeks. I know the city of Cleveland needs this win. We need wins in general to set us up for playoffs, but we lean on our home crowd this week.”
