Browns Reportedly Set To Make a Huge Call on Shedeur Sander

The Cleveland Browns have some interesting plans for their quarterback room and Shedeur Sanders going forward.

Cleveland drafted Sanders, the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, with the 144th overall pick during the fifth round on day three of April's NFL Draft. Coming into Cleveland’s OTAs, some debated whether Sanders could perform at an NFL level because of his draft fall from the first to the fifth round.

However, he quickly shut down those skeptics by playing well against veteran and presumed starter Joe Flacco, backup Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. By the end of practice on June 4, Sanders  completed 9 of 14 of his passes and threw for three touchdowns to an interception.

Furthermore, his performance impressed the Browns coaching staff to the point that they are considering keeping him alongside the three other quarterbacks on the roster throughout the summer and heading into the season, according to Cleveland.com writer Mary Kay Cabot.

“Thanks in part to low base salaries and cap number for all of them, they can afford to keep all four from a financial standpoint, and it also makes sense from a roster-building standpoint,” Cabot wrote.

Cabot noted that the Browns also made the decision as they are “straddling two worlds between trying to win in 2025, and determining their strategy in the 2026 draft,” now that they have the Jaguars' two 2026 first round picks that could land within the top 10 depending on how their season plays out.

The decision has made some fans glad because they have begun trusting Sanders' ability to lead the offense as their starting quarterback. There is also potential that he could surpass Pickett and Flacco before the end of the summer to claim the starting spot.
