Cleveland Browns added to the linebacker room in the NFL Draft when they took Nathaniel Watson out of Mississippi State in the sixth round of the draft.
While rookies have a learning adjustment when coming into the NFL, Watson will have some familiarity with the Browns that can help him get through it.
Watson spent six years with Mississippi State and three of those seasons he played as a teammate with Browns CB Martin Emerson Jr.
Emerson contacted Watson after he was drafted by the Browns and while he hasn’t given him any living recommendations, they did speak about some football stuff.
“We didn’t talk too much about living, but we really just talked about how I’m gonna fit in the defensive scheme,” Watson explained. “He said he’s gonna love to get me around here, so I just can’t wait to get with him and the rest of the older players, just learn more from all of them.”
Watson was a tackling machine over his last three seasons with the Bulldogs and even turned into a pretty good blitzing linebacker. The rookie had 21 sacks over his last three years in college and 10 in his final season.
“Me personally, just because there aren’t too many linebackers that can blitz, cover, and stop the run. Personally, I think I got all three of them phases.”
Watson was recently a part of the six-man draft class that participated in a three-day rookie minicamp with multiple undrafted rookies and tryout players.
