Browns TE David Njoku no longer wants a trade

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku generated headlines last fall due to a reported desire to be traded away from the club at a time when he had been relegated to third on the depth chart. He also was coming off a knee injury that left him out of sight and out of mind as it pertains to Cleveland's offense.

However, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Monday that the 24-year-old is now "in a good place with the franchise."

Njoku teased this with the recent comment 'I ain't goin nowhere!!!!' underneath a Bleacher Report post proposing a trade to the Jaguars.

Back on March 17, Njoku had the fifth-year option tender worth $6.013 million attached to his contract become fully guaranteed, and it was assumed at that time a Cleveland team that notched a playoff victory in January wouldn't put the offensive contributor on the market but also wouldn't offer him an extension ahead of the last campaign of his deal.

The first-round selection from the 2017 draft recorded a paltry 19 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns during the 2020 regular season and is likely worth more to the Browns on the active roster than he'd be on the trade market. Cleveland could shop him ahead of the fall trade deadline, though, if he's deemed surplus to requirements by the halfway point of the season.
