Browns to soon get back promising rookie defender for stretch run

After getting Denzel Ward back at practice today following two games missed, the Cleveland Browns had even more good news.

Rookie CB Cameron Mitchell has been designated to return from the injured reserve. Mitchell had been there since Nov. 7 with a hamstring injury.

Mitchell’s injury came about against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 5, a game that the rookie started in place of Greg Newsome II in the slot. Newsome is now healthy, so Mitchell can add depth behind him and thrive on special teams.

Cleveland selected Mitchell in the fifth round out of Northwestern and he’s played in eight games for them. The former Wildcat has played primarily on special teams outside of the spot start and other rotations.

During the 2023 season, Mitchell has seven tackles and one pass defended. He will be a boost to Cleveland’s secondary which appears to be getting healthy for the stretch run.

In Week 14, the Browns will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC showdown at 1 p.m. For Cleveland, a home game couldn’t come soon enough after playing two games out west.
