Browns Trade of Myles Garrett Move Coming

Just days after the Luka Dončić trade set the NBA world ablaze, the NFL has taken back the headlines.

On Monday, Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett announced his major trade decision: publicly requesting a way out of the rebuild.

The news came in the form of an official statement, first reported by Ian Rapoport.

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl – and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” he wrote. “My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.

“With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

Garrett hinted at a potential departure after Cleveland ended its regular season with a 3-14 record and the second pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He suggested that he’d need to see a clear plan of how the Browns would right the ship and start competing again in the near future.

When asked about those demands, general manager Andrew Berry said, “We envision him going from Cleveland to Canton when his career is over.”

It’s no coincidence that phrase found itself in Garrett’s statement, and it’s now clear his race toward Canton will have a pitstop.

Garrett finished the 2024 season with 14 sacks and a league-high 22 tackles for loss, earning first-team All-Pro honors for the fourth time in his career. He ranks sixth among active players (who played in 2024) in career sacks, with 102.5.

Garrett should have no shortage of suitors, and the Browns will likely be able to kickstart a large-scale rebuild with the capital they receive in return. Entering his age-30 season, the No.1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft would be among the best players to ever be traded.

After eight seasons and a single playoff win, Garrett’s time in Cleveland appears to be over.
