Cleveland Browns are starting the week off by waiving two defensive players from the roster. DT Roderick Perry and LB Storey Jackson were both cut, per the team. The Browns needed to make room for the acquisition of DE Za’Darius Smith, most notably.
Perry got his first bit of NFL action with the Browns in 2022 when he appeared in two games. The Illinois product had two tackles in the 40 defensive snaps he played in.
With the Browns overhauling their defensive tackle room, there simply was no spot for Perry. Though, don’t be surprised if the 25-year-old ends up on the practice squad next season.
Jackson was a rookie in 2022 out of Liberty and played in one game with Cleveland. He did not record any statistics in the 15 special team snaps he was a part of.
At linebacker, the Browns currently have Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Anthony Walker, Sione Takitaki, Jacob Phillips, Tony Fields II, Charlie Thomas, Mohamoud Diabate, Jordan Kunaszyk, and Matthew Adams on the roster.
The team will begin organized team activities on May 23, then mandatory minicamp will run from June 6-8. Cleveland is now within the 90-player threshold.
