Buccaneers' 2025 Success Hinges On Josh Grizzard Adaptability

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had trouble keeping their offensive coordinator since Baker Mayfield arrived on the scene, but in a good way.

Such has been the performance of the offenses, Dave Canales and now Liam Coen have been poached for head coaching jobs. Now, Josh Grizzard, who was the passing game coordinator under Coen last season, is in the big seat.

With the Buccaneers boasting one of the best offenses in football and having upgraded at receiver, everything is set nicely for Tampa to embark on a deep playoff run.

But for Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, that can only happen if the players adjust quickly to Grizzzard's scheme.

"The problem is that the success of Mayfield and Tampa's offense has caused the Bucs to lose offensive coordinators to head coaching vacancies in back-to-back offseasons," Knox wrote. "This year, Liam Coen departed to take the Jacksonville job.

"Grizzard and head coach Todd Bowles must craft a plan for fully implementing the new offense at the start of camp. To repeat as the divisional champ, Tampa's offense has to hit the ground running in 2025."

What might make things easier is that Grizzard isn't an entirely new person to the offense, having had a close role with the unit last season, so now he simply gets more of a voice in how things run.

The terminology will roughly remain the same, and so too will the scheme, but of course, Grizzard will want to sprinkle his ideas on it as well.

So while some use the fact that Baker has another coordinator as a reason to doubt Tampa Bay's ability to reach the playoffs again, the change isn't as big as some have made it out to be.

And with things so far running smoothly with training camp coming into view, the Buccaneers might be poised to again have one of the best offenses in the conference.
