Buccaneers Add Veteran Quarterback

With Baker Mayfield sidelined by injury, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed another quarterback. The team addressed that need Tuesday by adding veteran Brett Rypien.

According to Fox Sports’ Greg Auman:

“Bucs are signing veteran QB Brett Rypien to their practice squad, giving them a third healthy quarterback while Baker Mayfield is sidelined. He played for Rams in 2023 when Zac Robinson was the QBs coach there, so has some familiarity with the offense.”

Rypien provides Tampa Bay with another healthy quarterback option. His previous experience with Robinson also gives him familiarity with the offensive system.

Rypien Joins Buccaneers Quarterback Room

Rypien joins Easton Stick and Jalon Daniels in Tampa Bay’s quarterback room. Daniels is expected to take over as the Buccaneers’ starter while Mayfield is sidelined.

Stick provides another experienced option behind Daniels. Rypien now gives Tampa Bay a third healthy quarterback for the practice squad.

With Mayfield dealing with his thumb injury, Tampa Bay needed additional depth. The addition of Rypien gives the Buccaneers another option while they navigate the quarterback situation.
