Sometimes, even something as cynical as the sports world can deliver a happy ending to a tale.
While speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs offered a humorous update to a story he first mentioned in February 2021 and admitted that he still didn't have a phone number for quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady even though Brady ended a short-lived retirement to return to the team last month.
"I don't have Tom's number," Wirfs remarked with a smile at the time, as noted by Grant Gordon of the NFL's website. "No, I don't think I'm there yet."
It's vital that signal-callers take care of those who protect them during games, so Brady rectified the issue by late Tuesday night:

To his credit, Wirfs had fun with the matter both in his response to the G.O.A.T. and on Twitter:

It's not as if Brady isn't used to communicating with teammates and other athletes via telephone. Back in March, Tampa Bay star wide receiver Chris Godwin commented that he and fellow receiver Mike Evans received a text message on March 13 from Brady in a group chat that informed them of his plans to play at least one more season approximately 20 minutes before the 44-year-old publicly announced the news through social media. Earlier this week, Brady called Northwestern Wildcats star Veronica Burton to congratulate her on being selected in this year's WNBA Draft.
Tom should know to keep his friends close and his blockers even closer.
