The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not had the start to the season they were hoping for. Through their first seven games of the 2026 NFL season, the Buccaneers are 2-5 and in third place in the NFC South. With quarterback Baker Mayfield making his return after missing three games, the Buccaneers were able to pick up a much-needed win against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Injuries have played a major role in Tampa Bay’s rough start, but the team was able to get a key divisional win without their premier receiver, Emeka Egbuka, who missed his first game of the season.

Egbuka suffered a concussion and a foot injury during the Buccaneers’ Week 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, ruling him out for Week 7.

Egbuka had appeared in each of Tampa Bay’s first six games until Week 7, recording 28 receptions for 240 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a score on the ground.

The second-year receiver has remained an important part of the offense, but has been dealing with injuries dating back to training camp. A foot issue kept him sidelined for more than a month and caused him to miss the preseason.

On Monday, head coach Todd Bowles offered an update on Egbuka’s status heading into Week 8, as well as the status of Luke Goedeke and Antoine Winfield Jr. According to Jenna Laine of ESPN, Bowles said, “They’re all questionable. We’re going to see on Wednesday and Thursday what they do, and I’ll have a better answer for you.”

Egbuka’s status for Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons remains uncertain, but the team will likely have more clarity near the end of the week.

The Buccaneers were able to move the ball without him against Carolina, but the team will hope their top target can return to provide Baker Mayfield with another reliable option in the passing game as the team looks to build on Week 7’s momentum.
