Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield At Fault For 'Worst-Case Scenario'

It seems like a lot of people are eagerly awaiting the downfall of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield in 2025.

After two superb seasons that have seen Mayfield's career arc take a dramatic turn, the former first-round pick is now playing some of the best football of his career. Surrounded by a top offensive line, skill position players that are the end of the league, and a top run game, everything is there for Mayfield to push this team to the playoffs and beyond.

But what if things go south, as many are waiting for? What could the season look like?

For Pro Football Network, in their worst-case scenario, the Buccaneers go 7-10 in 2025, with Baker's regression the reason why.

"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won the NFC South in four consecutive seasons and project as favorites to win the division for a fifth time in 2025," Pro football Network writes. "They lost Robert Hainsey along their offensive line but added Haason Reddick to their pass rush in an otherwise quiet offseason.

"If the Buccaneers do reach their worst-case scenario, it would likely be because Baker Mayfield fell back down to Earth after a tremendous 2024 campaign. A breakout year from the Falcons or Panthers could also knock Tampa Bay down the ladder in the NFC South. They don’t have an elite roster, but they seem like the best team in the division."

With the resources at Mayfield's disposal, along with the offensive mind of Josh Grizzard, if this scenario were to play out, the Buccaneers would be in a world of hurt.

Armed with perhaps the best collection of offensive talent, to only go 7-10 would make some ask serious questions about both Baker and Grizzard. However, we can't see a big drop-off in 2025 given how the roster is constructed, as Tampa Bay has all the tools needed to make the playoffs and go on a deep run.

But fans wouldn't want this scenario to come to life.
