The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t fired head coach Todd Bowles yet, and it doesn’t look like it will come today on “Black Monday.” That’s because Bowles will speak at the end of season press conference on Monday after an 8-9 season where the team missed the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Bowles doing today’s press conference doesn’t mean his job is safe for sure. The Glazer family, who own the Buccaneers, fired head coach Lovie Smith three days after the 2015 season. That said, Bowles has a unique situation. He served as the defensive coordinator for the Buccaneers’ second Super Bowl-winning team in the 2020 season, and he moved up to head coach after the 2021 season when Bruce Arians retired. Bowles has kept the Buccaneers on course with three more NFC South titles and a 35-33 overall record, which is third all-time among Buccaneers head coaches for winning percentage. However, this season was a collapse from 6-2 to 8-9 with a 2-7 second half of the season, and injuries only played a partial role in that. A stalled offense and underperforming defense ultimately led to the Buccaneers’ demise. If the Buccaneers don’t fire Bowles, then making changes on his staff could become a potential, serious consideration. For more on the Buccaneers from Matthew click here.
