Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht has been vocal about his optimism for the 2025 NFL season, pulling no punches in expressing his confidence in the team’s prospects.
Re-signing veterans like Lavonte David, Chris Godwin, and Ben Bredeson has bolstered the GM’s confidence, but he’s also high on the rookie class, impressed by their mental and physical readiness.
Emeka Egbuka, the Ohio State standout and national champion, made a strong impression on Jason Licht and the Buccaneers’ scouting staff throughout his college career and pre-draft process.
In a recent conversation with Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Licht praised Egbuka’s impressive performance at his first minicamp and expressed confidence in his ability to mesh with the team’s veteran players.
“Especially when it’s the elite quality of a person that he is. And that fits right in, too,” Licht stated. “I think he’s a little bit more explosive than I’ve given him credit for, too. Just now seeing him live every day. He’s very, very exciting.”
Licht’s praise didn’t stop at Egbuka; he was also impressed by rookie cornerbacks Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish, selected in the second and third rounds, whose minicamp performances left a strong impression.
“They have been as amazing as what we talk about Emeka, and I know Todd has come out and talked about how smart he is and you can plug him into any of the positions at wide receiver and we’re good,” Licht stated. “[Morrison and Parrish] have been equally as impressive. It’s been fun to watch We feel very, very good about them helping to solve a lot this year.”
Licht also commended Zyon McCollum’s offseason efforts, signaling a significant boost in his confidence in the team’s young secondary compared to last season.
“Very few teams, I think, have three young corners with that much talent right now.”
Licht is optimistic about the 2025 season. He cites confidence in the team’s veteran players and rookie class. Licht praised rookies Egbuka, Morrison, and Parrish for their impressive minicamp performances. These performances highlighted their talent, work ethic, and ability to fit in with the team. He also commended Zyon McCollum’s offseason efforts, signaling increased confidence in the team’s young secondary.
