Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles provided an update on wide receiver Chris Godwin’s potential return timeline. Godwin, who suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 7 of the previous season, is still rehabbing and hasn’t been practicing with the team.
The Buccaneers have added Chris Godwin to their 53-man roster instead of placing him on the physically unable to perform list, suggesting he might return to action within the first four weeks of the season.
According to head coach Todd Bowles, Godwin’s return could happen anywhere from Week 2 to Week 5, following his recovery from a dislocated ankle suffered last season. Godwin’s injury required surgery, and he’s been rehabbing since. While Bowles hopes Godwin will be ready for Week 1.
“He’s working his way back, he’s getting healthier by the day.” Bowles said via WDAE. “There’s some light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t say exactly when, but hopefully sooner than later. I think he’s closer to sooner than he is later.”
With Jalen McMillan on injured reserve, rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka will likely serve as a key complement to Mike Evans early in the season. If Egbuka performs well, the Buccaneers’ offense should remain potent even before Chris Godwin returns from his ankle injury. This could provide a seamless transition and set the stage for a strong receiving corps when Godwin eventually rejoins the lineup.
