The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Carolina Panthers on the ground, turning their rushing attack into the centerpiece of Sunday’s 43-13 victory. Baker Mayfield’s return from injury grabbed attention, but Tampa Bay’s running backs ultimately stole the show.
Bucky Irving led the way with 106 yards on 24 carries, while Kenneth Gainwell contributed 88 yards on 14 attempts. Sean Tucker also made his presence felt, rushing seven times for 52 yards.
Tampa Bay’s opening possession featured 14 plays, including 10 rushing attempts by Irving for 47 yards. Mayfield accounted for 23 of his 64 passing yards on that drive, suggesting the Buccaneers initially planned a more balanced offensive approach.
However, a defensive touchdown gave Tampa Bay a commanding 17-0 advantage and changed the game’s complexion. The Buccaneers continued leaning on their rushing attack as Carolina struggled to close the gap.
The Panthers attempted to make things interesting, cutting the deficit to 17-6. Tampa Bay responded when its defense returned a blocked extra-point attempt for two points, extending the lead to 19-6.
The Buccaneers followed with a seven-play scoring drive, highlighted by a 29-yard Gainwell run. That possession ended with a touchdown, pushing Tampa Bay’s advantage to 26-6 and putting the game firmly under its control.
Tampa Bay ultimately cruised to a 43-13 victory, earning an important divisional win. The Buccaneers now turn their attention to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8, with an opportunity to gain ground in the NFC South.
