Buccaneers Host Desmond Watson Tryout

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted a tryout for undrafted free agent Desmond Watson on Friday, via the league’s transaction report. Watson, a defensive tackle, was previously signed by the Buccaneers but was released. This tryout gives him a second chance to showcase his skills and potentially earn a spot on the team.

Desmond Watson’s initial release by the Buccaneers wasn’t due to a lack of talent, but rather concerns about his weight and conditioning. Although he took part in the team’s offseason program, he struggled enough to be placed on the non-football injury list at the start of training camp. After several weeks on the NFI list, he was cleared and released from it in late August, only to be cut loose by the team.

At Florida’s Pro Day, Watson tipped the scales at 464 pounds. However, if he can shed enough weight to get in game-ready shape, he has the potential to be a game-changer for the Buccaneers. That’s likely why Tampa Bay is willing to give him another shot.
